If there is any question or concern, please contact us by email at zhopan@ucdavis.edu. I apologize for not making it clear. All the balance from previous committee adds up to $4814.22. Because there had been controversials about part of the money which came from local donations in previous committees, we, the committee of 2001-2002, decided to freeze all of the $4814.22 and opened a separate bank account for our daily use. We only used the money we earned. The $4814.22 is under a protection so that people can only deposit to it but not withdraw from it, unless the signers in CSSF committee sign to unfreeze it. This frozen account with a balance of $4814.22, and the daily account with a balance of $733.64 (more than what we reported in the financial report 'cause there's still one reimbursement check not cashed), were both transferred to the new committee today. But there had been just too many disputes on the mail list in the history and too many disputes only annoyed people without making things better. So if you have questions or concerns about last year's financial operation, please contact me at zhopan@ucdavis.edu. I will not respond to queries or requests posted to CSSF mail list afterwards. Thank you. ------------------------------------------------------------- This is my personal reply regarding Lei, Xiaomao's request about CSSF bank accounts. I present the information to my best knowledge, but I do not represent the CSSF committee of 2001-2002 at this moment of time. Ever since I accepted the position of the president of CSSF, I heard stories of the "6.4" donation. Some stories say it's originally $7000, but most recent versions just refer it as $5000. As a new comer at that time, I had no way to know what exactly happened. I also didn't trace who told what version of story to me. But the story now formed in my brain is as following: Around "6.4" local people donated money to support the students. When the situation became serious, some money were not able to be sent to China. This amount was originally $7000. Three graduate student associations at that time, one for mainland China, one for Hongkong and one for Taiwan, were assigned to manage it, each for a certain amount of time. But the money ended up managed only by the mainland student association because other organizations didn't bother to take the responsibility, and that organization became CSSF later on. The donation money was blended with CSSF's own funding somehow, and the amount changed over years. Again, above story is just what I heard and believed. I didn't experience it, so I cannot assure it's accurate. It's just to my best knowledge. The financial report forwarded by Lei, Xiaomao was before the investigation on Shao, Xingguo's moving of CSSF money was finished, so the balance in the only bank account of CSSF when we received it was not as declared. The actual amount we received was at first $23.22 on 9/25/01. After the investigation, the total in the CSSF bank account was 4814.22. We have bank statements and the account book as evidence. After discussing within the committee, we decided that since this money is sensitive and may raise disputes again, we just froze the account and opened a new account for CSSF daily use. Thus the amount of 4814.22 from Shao, Xingguo's committee was kept unchanged. Nobody can withdraw money from it. We also have bank statements as evidence. The account was gaining interest before Shao, Xingguo's term. But because the balance once dropped to below the required limit because of the money moving, it was changed to checking account without interest by Shao, Xingguo. We kept this setting unchanged, also. Every cent of money we used was earned by our committee. This frozen account with a balance of $4814.22, and the daily account with a balance of $733.64 (more than what we reported in the financial report 'cause there's still one reimbursement check not cashed), were both transferred to the new committee yestoday. Hope this lengthy description can gave you some idea what happened. If you have more questions, again, please send email to me at zhopan@ucdavis.edu Some last words. In my opinion, CSSF is an organization by the Chinese here and for the Chinese here. It is not a political stage for just a few important people to play on. It needs everybody to take part in, and everybody is responsible for it. I am so glad to see that the new committee led by Wang, Lu has organized a lot of active helpers, did a great job in welcoming the new comers, and are preparing with full effort for the mid-autumn party as well as other future activities. If you really care about the wellfare of our community, please help out. Doing something means much much more that just watching and talking. Wish you all a happy mid-autumn and national day!
