Dear CSSF members,
Our second donation reached $5826.4 (The actual amount is slightly larger than the signed amount, which is 5818.94, because of anonymous donation). This donation has been transfered to the Chinese Consulate in SF on Jun 9, 2008. The money was mainly collected at the boothe set in front of MU. We also received donations by bank transfer.

raising activity at Silo and MU today. Thanks for all the help!
We will continue setting up our booth at MU tomorrow (Friday) from 11am

| 2008 Olympic Torch Relay |

Dear all,
The 2008 Olympic Torch Relay will begin with the lighting of the flame in Olympia, Greece, on March 25, 2008, and will be delivered to Beijing on March 31. On April 1, the torch will start its journey to 22 cities, including San Francisco, before returning to mainland China. San Francisco will be the only U.S. city on the international route.
As the largest Chinese association in Davis, CSSF is offering limited quota to participate this exciting relay. If you want to share your passion and dream with all the people in the world to celebreate this great event, you can register by sending an email to xia.ming@163.com. Below is some information:

| Director of the National Laboratory for Protein Sciences |

The National Laboratory for Protein Sciences (NLPS), housed within the Institute of Biophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, is one of several National Laboratories established recently in China. The NLPS invites applications and nominations for the positions of Director (1 position) and Vice Director (2-3 positions).
The Director will have administrative oversight of the Laboratory and will report directly to the Board of Trustees of the NLPS. The Director will play a pivotal role in the planning and execution of NLPS strategies and will be responsible for leading all NLPS programs, activities, and services, especially in terms of academic guidance and management. The Director is charged with developing a research infrastructure and environment favorable to scientific discovery and technical innovation. The Director is to establish and maintain strong and active relationships with government, business and industry, as well as other educational and research institutions.
Minimum qualifications of the position include: a doctorate in a relevant scientific field; credentials as a tenured professor or equivalent; and previous experience in academic administration. The successful candidate should have a strong record of scientific accomplishments. Managerial experience of multidisciplinary research programs would be highly desirable. The Director will be required to work full time at NLPS, at least 9 months per year.
Applicants should send an application form (download at www.ibp.ac.cn), publication list, copies of five representative papers, summary of main achievements, proposal of work to be carried out at NLPS, and contact details of at least three referees who are leading experts in the applicant¡¯s field.
